Quality Engineered Hardwood Floor Installation Instructions

Before You install engineered hardwood flooring

Sub-Floor Preparation to install Engineered Hardwood Flooring:
• The sub-floor must be completely dry. A new concrete slab will usually take 90 to 150 days to dry thoroughly
depending on size of slab and weather conditions. The moisture content difference should be no more than 4%
between the engineered wood floor and concrete sub floor.
• If plywood is used as a sub-floor, the moisture content difference should be no more than 4% between
engineered wood floor and plywood sub floor. Plywood size for sub-floor is suggested to be ¾” x 48” x 48” and
leave ¼” between sheets for expansion.
• The sub floor must be free from any type of paint, oil, greases, dust and all other types of residues.
• The sub floor should be level. The level drop must be no more than ¼” over a 10 feet distance.
Glue-down installation guidelines for QUALITY ENGINEERED Hardwood Floors:
(Recommended method of Installation for both concrete and plywood sub floor)
• We recommend an acclimation period of 3 days for all our engineered hardwood flooring products.

baseline of installation.
• Following the spread rate, curing time, spread the glue evenly on the sub-floor to cover the area the installer can
lay the planks in time for best result of the glue.
• Lay one row of plank along the entire length of work line. Add each additional row of flooring, watching the
pattern repeat and offsetting or staggering the joints at least 6 inches.
• A ½” expansion space should be left around the perimeter.
• Roll whole floor with a 150 lb. Roller within 3-6 hours after installation.

Hardwood Flooring FAQ

Q) Is it important to let my hardwood flooring acclimate before installation?

 A) Yes, it is necessary to let your new flooring acclimate to the temperature and humidity levels of the room/ area in which it will be installed.

Q) Can I install engineered wood flooring over my existing hardwood floors?  A) Yes HDF engineered flooring may be installed over the following existing substrates; wood, plywood, tile, marble, Linoleum or vinyl.

Q) Can HDF engineered hardwood flooring be sanded and or refinished?

A) No, sanding down your HDF engineered flooring would remove the flooring seven layers of aluminum oxide and the finishing coat of oil base polyurethane.

Q) What can cause gaps on my hardwood flooring?

 A) Gaps can appear on joints between floor boards due to air conditioning. Seasonal variation, under floor heating or exposure to and subsequent

drying of excessive water. Gaps can also be caused by improper leveling of the floor.

Q) What can I do to prevent Gaps on my floors?

A)  Always ensure that you allow an expansion gap of at least 10mm (3/8 inches).The sub‐floor should be dry (max 60%, RH at 18 deg), reasonably flat and even (max 3mm/m).  A room’s air humidity is ideally 40‐50% at 20 C (68 F). During cold periods with increased heating, indoor humidity may become so low that the floor is prone to dry out. This can cause certain amount of separation so that minor gaps appear in the flooring joints.

Such problem can be overcome by use of a room humidifier.

Q) I see color shade variations in my floor; is that normal?  A) Yes, wood is a natural product therefore the color will vary from plank to plank. Installers should blend color shades by working out of 3 to 5 different boxes.

Q) Can I install Home Legend HDF engineered flooring over radiant heating?  A) Home Legend engineered hard wood floor can be laid over a radiant sub‐floor heating system. However it is possible that slight gaps might develop between the floor panels when heating is active or due to changes in  atmospheric  conditions. Make sure to follow all the instructions for the sub‐floor heating system located on our Home Legend Install instruction under additional points to note ( Floor heating pg4)

Q) Would adding an extra coat of polyurethane add more protection to my hardwood floor?   A) Our HDF engineered wood flooring does not require extra coats of polyurethane.

The flooring is sealed with a oil base polyurethane and doing so would void out your 30 year warranty.

Q) How can I repair scratches on my HDF engineered wood flooring?  A) Minor scratched can be easily repaired but using flooring stain marker, which minimizes the appearance of the scratches. In some cases individual board replacement may be necessary, and should be consulted with a professional installer.

Q) How should I clean my hardwood floor?  A) Cleaning is simple with a dry mop or approved hardwood cleaner.

Q) What is causing small dents and scratches on my  hardwood floors?  A) Not using protective pads under furniture can cause indentation.Dogs and pets nails can also cause scratching. Shoe’s with a spike heal.

Q) What can I do to avoid squeaking sound from my HDF engineered wood flooring?  A) Before installation make sure that the sub‐floor is reasonably flat, even and leveled  with a max 3mm/m.

Ensure that the end joints are staggered at least 300mm apart in consecutive rows.If installed and squeaking noises are presented add some

baby powder in the joints to help reduce the sounds.

Home Legend Bakers Creek ReCrafted Wood Flooring

Baker’s Creek ReCrafted Flooring couples the stunning character of centuries old heart pine with the exceptional performance of engineered flooring. The faces are 100% re-claimed wood. Our Patent Pending Lineal Production line and nimble artisan approach allow us to fine tune each run while maintaining high-volume production capabilities.

During the Industrial Revolution, wood was employed as the primary building material of the time. Most of these structures were built after the Civil War and before 1920. Long Leaf Pine was used primarily because of its strength, durability, and availability.  Most of these pines were growing when the early settlers arrived and much of the lumber salvaged from these old buildings were from trees growing before the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE was signed. This material became vital in building factories, wharves, bridges, and homes. As time progressed, these structures were abandoned, but the building and materials stood the test of time.

Many of these old structures have been slated for demolition and headed for landfills. It is the passion and vision of Baker’s Creek to use the salvaged parts of these structures, breathing new life into these historic relics. Baker’s Creek uses beams, decking, and flooring from these antiquated structures to carefully recreate the beautiful and much sought after floors our ancestors worked and lived on.
ReCrafted Heart Pine gives an opportunity to bring living history into our homes and businesses while creating a positive environmental impact. Living on a beautiful floor that was growing before this great country was even formed…WHAT A STORY.

This beautiful and historical line will contain all the characteristics that are sought after in a reclaimed floor. You will find nail holes, bolt holes, knots, splits, cracks, and all the natural characteristics of Reclaimed Heart Pine. These are not viewed as flaws or defects, but rather the characteristics of a true historical treasure that has been carefully crafted to make this charming floor.

Tell the story because there is certainly an exciting and historical story to tell about ReCrafted Heart Pine flooring from Baker’s Creek !

Bliss Carpet By Beaulieu of America

Get a cleaner, Fresher Feeling Home With Bliss Carpet!

Bliss carpet by beaulieu Heathy Home was created for households on-the-go! It’s durable, kid friendly, and easy to clean. But, best of all, it resists mold and mildew to help households feel cleaner. While carpet does not promote the growth of mold or mildew, foreign particles on any moist surface can promote its occurrence and growth. Silver Release helps Bliss Carpets stay naturally fresh and inhibits the growth of bacteria, mold and mildew using silver and copper ions.

Silver Release:

Proven effective against a broad spectrum of mold, mildew, and bacteria in your carpet. Based on testing it won’t wear or wash off for the life of the carpet.

Built into the fiberfor “DNA” of carpet, resulting in long lasting anti microbial protection.

Naturally beneficial, uses silver and copper ions – elements found in nature.

Put Silver Release To Work For You.

People today are more concerned than ever about bacterial growth and are more demanding products that are “smart”, green and help promote a cleaner environment. Bliss carpet by beaulieu has answered the call with Silver Release. It is proven effective against bacteria, mold, and mildew – kicking into action when you need it. This patented fiber technology brings long lasting, effective anti microbial protection to your carpet. Best of all, it’s based on naturally occurring elements.

How Does It Work?

The key to the effectiveness of Silver Release is a unique, balanced combination of silver and copper ions. Moisture in the environment, the same moisture required by microbes to grow, initiates the release of  silver and copper ions from the fibers. These ions bind to the microbes, inactivating them. This process takes place continuously for the life of the carpet.

Green Smart Carpet Fiber

Green Smart is the environment friendly carpet fiber. It is made from 100%  recycled P.E.T. Polyester. It’s so easy to be green with bliss carpeting!

Hardwood Flooring Species Hardness

Relative hardness of selected wood flooring species. (Ranked by janka hardness rating)

The Janka (or side) hardness test measures the force required to embed a .444-inch steel ball to half its diameter in wood. It is one of the best measures of the ability of a wood species to withstand denting and wear. By the same token, it also is a good indicator of how hard or easy a species is to saw or nail. Northern red oak, for example, has a Janka hardness rating of 1290. Brazilian Cherry, with a rating of 2820, is more than twice as hard. If you’re accustomed to working with red oak and decide to tackle a job with brazilian cherry hardwood flooring, you can expect it to be much harder to cut and nail down.

JANKA SCALE RATINGS:

Brazilian Walnut 3680
Brazilian Teak 3540
Purpleheart 2890
Brazilian Cherry (Jatoba) 2820
Mesquite 2345
Santos Mahogany 2200
Merbau 1925
Jarrah 1910
Hickory or Pecan 1820
Padauk 1725
Wenge 1630
Brazilian Maple 1500
Sapele 1500
Hard Maple 1450
Australian Cypress 1375
White Oak 1360
White Ash 1320
Beech 1300
Red Oak 1290
Birch 1260
Antique Heart Pine 1225
Burmese Thai Teak 1078
American Black Walnut 1010
Black Cherry 950
Southern Yellow Pine 870

While Janka values give a general sense of hardness, many other factors also contribute to a wood floor’s durability, including the type of cut (i.e. plainsawn, quartersawn), denseness of cell structure, and finish used.

After Carpet is Installed

Protecting your carpet investment is up to you…

Like other fine furnishings, carpet requires proper care, and you should reference your residential warranty for specific care requirements. There are also a few simple steps you can take to insure the lasting beauty of your new carpet.

Prevention : Keep the dirt/soil out. Use walk-off mats at entrance and other areas to keep outside dirt and moisture from being tracked onto the carpet. Clean mats frequently. Keep your sidewalks and entrances free of excessive dirt.

Vacuum Frequently : The best way to reduce dirt accumulation and prolong the life of your carpet is to vacuum, vacuum! Most dirt, even dust, is in the form of hard particles. When left in the carpet, these gritty, sharp particles abrade the pile as effectively as sandpaper. How frequently should you vacuum? That depends on the amount of foot traffic and household soil to which your carpet is exposed. More use means more frequent vacuuming. All Flooring Solutions recommends a vacuum cleaner with a rotating brush or “brush/beater bar” to agitate the pile and mechanically loosen soil particles. The exception to this is for shag styled products with longer yarns which might tend to wrap around a rotating brush. For these styles we recommend a suction-only vacuum. Also, be aware that some vacuums have overly aggressive action which may damage the surface of your carpet.

Spots & Spills on Carpet: Prompt attention to spots and spills is essential. Some spilled materials will stain or discolor carpet if not removed promptly. Other spills can leave a sticky residue that may result in increased soiling if not removed.

Remember no carpet is stain proof, although many are stain resistant, which allows time for removal.

General Stain Removal Instructions for Carpet

Scrape: Remove as much of food spills as possible by scraping gently with a spoon of dull knife.
Absorb: Absorb wet spills as quickly as possible by blotting repeatedly with white paper or cloth towels.

Blot: Always blot; never rub or scrub abrasively, as a fuzzy area may result. When blotting, work from the edge in toward the center of the spot to avoid spreading the spill.

Rinse: Always follow up with water to remove detergent residue that may become sticky and cause rapid resoiling.

Weight: Remove remaining moisture by placing several layers of white towels over the spot and weigh them down with a heavy object that will not transfer color, such as a plastic jug of water.
